Business Continuity Services

Insure your business against disaster
Hard Drive

Technical or physical disaster can strike in many different ways. There can be major software or hardware crash on internal or external technical systems, or disasters that most of us prefer not to think about - fire, flood, terrorism, or office evacuation.

Support Tree have developed five Business Continuity Services to assist our clients with business recovery should disaster strike.

ST-Lite

ST-Lite is designed for Small and Medium size Enterprises (SME's) with relatively low systems requirements in a disaster.
In this scenario, two aspects are provided for:

  • Continuous email access
  • Critical file recovery.

Continuous Email Access
Email is permanently routed via clustered Microsoft Exchange servers located at a data centre in East London. During normal operation email is passed on by the Clustered Exchange servers directly to the local email server at the client office(s).

In the event of any issue at the office where their email server becomes unavailable, email is automatically queued at the routing cluster.

When the client declares a disaster, Support Tree engineers ensure your e-mail is routed to your disaster recovery mailboxes. The client then has full access to these mailboxes via either Outlook Web Access or the Outlook Email client using RPC over HTTPS.

Critical File Recovery
Based on the Attix5 backup product, Support Tree enables online backup of critical files from the client site. The Attix5 product uses world leading security, encryption and compression. In transit files are SSL protected, and are stored using 448bit Blowfish encryption.

Online backups are made to secure clustered servers hosted at a data centre facility in East London.

In the event of a disaster, files are available for download using the Attix5 client software, given the correct encryption and authentication keys. For the ST-Lite product clients who require access to critical files will be given these encryption and authentication keys with instructions on how to recover their critical files to home computers or laptops.

ST-Online Remote

ST- Online Remote provides Continuous Email access and Critical File recovery in a similar vein to ST-Lite, but extends the solution further with enhancements to both the Continuous Email service and Critical File service.

Continuous Email Access
This service operates in exactly the same manner as ST-Lite, with the exception that Support Tree will restore critical aspects of user's mailboxes to the ST-mailboxes, using data backed up by the Attix5 online service. By default this will include Contacts, Calendar and Outlook Notes. But can include other mailbox sub-folders specified by the client.

Critical File Recovery
Again using the Attix5 online backup product, critical files are backed up online via a daily schedule. In the event of a disaster, Support Tree will restore this data to a secure hosted Sharepoint portal, from which all files will be available to users via any standard web browser. Unlike the ST-Lite solution, the Sharepoint portal allows users within a specific client to share files amongst themselves, with upload and download access. In this way, the client can ensure data integrity and uniformity throughout a disaster.

ST-Tape Remote

The Support Tree ST-Tape Remote scenario is exactly the same as the ST-Online Remote scenario, with one critical difference. As the name suggests, ST-Tape Remote is designed for clients who have an existing tape backup solution and do not take advantage of the Attix5 online backup solution in conjunction with this.

In this scenario Support Tree will use the client's tape backup media to restore historical email and file data to the online ST-email and Sharepoint servers for access by client staff.

ST-Replicate

Support Tree ST-Replicate is a step up from the ST-LITE and ST-Online Remote scenarios. For ST-Replicate, Support Tree will arrange co-location of additional client server hardware at a secure facility. These co-location servers are then setup to replicate in real-time critical data and services from the client site, maintaining a full 100% up-to-date copy of all required client data in a completely remote location.

Typically in this scenario the following services would be replicated or duplicated at the co-location facility:

  • Active Directory Services (security and login)
  • DNS and DHCP services
  • Exchange Email services
  • Server file shares
  • Any custom or vendor databases as required (SQL/Oracle)

The co-location facility is then setup with VPN remote access available to all authorised staff.

ST-Office

Support Tree ST-Office is a flexible customised solution for the client that requires that little bit more. Support Tree sales and technical personnel will consult with you to customise a solution specifically for your needs. This could include all or some of the features already described as well as additional services:

  • Live replication of services
  • Customised remote access to services
  • Office/desk space throughout London
  • Replication to an existing or new global wan infrastructure
  • Microsoft
  • Dell
  • Messagelabs
