Situation:

The client was broken into by vandals who this time decided to start a fire in the office. The fire spread rapidly through out all of the offices destroying all of the IT equipment including servers, PCs, laptops, printers and network equipment

As Microsoft do not provide an organised migration path so that your upgraded server can keep the same server name (therefore minimising impact on shared folders) a swing migration must be implemented to successfully migrate from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008.................

Client based in London with a staff of 10 and a huge MS Exchange DB of 72Gb
The client produces catalogues each week for distribution in the national press. The process for the design of the catalogues and printing of the catalogues is spread around different companies leading to a lot of email traffic with very large 10-20+ Mb email attachments.

Result
The client now has an 8Gb Exchange database. Mail Archiver has speeded up mail access and now the client does not have issues with corrupting OST files.

Initially, all PCs and Servers need to be cleaned of old antivirus products to avoid conflicts on the system. It is then necessary to install the server software – this allows the client software to be pushed out silently causing a minimum of disruption to end users.

In order to install the PCs to exactly the same specification and to complete the job quicker, one PC is set up exactly as required, and then an image is taken of the PC to be restored to the remaining 45 PCs.

Prepare PC for Image:
The following steps need to be followed when setting up the PC for imaging:

• Install Windows XP Professional
• Remove unwanted applications (McAfee Trial, any included internet explorer toolbars, Office Business contacts manager etc.)
• Enable remote desktop, adding the everyone group in permissions..................................

Client missing essential data

The MD of an important client had been fiddling around with a new blackberry when he synchronised his new blank Blackberry with the contacts on his desktop PC.

The client chose to make the Blackberry 'over write' his local MS Outlook contacts wiping all of his contacts from the his desktop, server and Blackberry............
