Environmental Responsibility

Support Tree operate with an environmental responsibility code. We strive to recycle as mush waste as we can from general office waste to technology waste.

We also urge responsible disposal of IT waste to our clients. Not only is it all of our responsibility within the law we also feel it is our obligation to do so morally.

We have close ties with recycling firms who also can provide data shreding services to gurantee data is wiped before a PC is taken for recycling.

Go Green - Tips:

  • Configure the hard drives to sleep on inactivity. You can do this via Control Panel, Power, and it's particularly helpful if you have multiple drives in a machine.
  • If you wish to access a PC remotely Support Tree can recommend software and configure your PC with Wake-on-LAN so the PC can be ‘woken up’ when needed
  • Don't use a high-end video card. After the CPU, the video card is by far the biggest power consumer in a typical PC. It's not uncommon for the typical "mid-range" video card to use 20+ watts at idle , and far more under actual use. The worrying number, though, is the idle one. Pay close attention to the video card you use in an "always-on" machine.
  • Configure the monitor to sleep on inactivity. A CRT use about 80 watts, and a LCD of equivalent size less than half that.
